The Detroit Sound Co. formed in August of 1997 (eight weeks prior to the Pioneer District Quartet Competition). We were surprised, yet delighted, to finish first in the contest. We were actively visiting various chapters, singing on shows, and participating in district functions. We have had the pleasure of singing the National Anthem for the Detroit Pistons, the Detroit Tigers, the Detroit Vipers (minor league hockey), and the Detroit Shock (WNBA). Other performances have included: WJR Radio 760 in Detroit, Fox 2 Television News in Detroit, the Buckeye Invitational in Ohio, Birmingham First Night Festivities on New Year’s Eve, Michigan International Speedway, the Detroit Institute of Arts, Alcoholics for Christ, and a homeless shelter in Detroit. The Detroit Sound Co. chapter show appearances have included Rochester, Grosse Pointe, Huron Valley, Windsor, Muskegon, Wayne, Macomb, and the Southgate Sweet Adelines. The Detroit Sound Co. sang a wide variety of songs that catered to all ages. Our repertoire included Broadway, ballads, up-tunes, comedy, commercials, Christmas, spirituals, and patriotic. We truly believed that it was our responsibility, as district champs, to spread the gospel of barbershop wherever we went. Not only did we enjoy singing with each other, but we also had a lot of just plain fun when we are together. |
